Pringle: Government parties afraid of Independents
- Updated: 19th November 2024
Independent TD for Donegal, Thomas Pringle, said it’s unsurprising that government parties are afraid of Independents, saying the people know the value of an independent voice unconstrained by failed party policies.
Deputy Pringle said: “Being independent leaves me answerable to the demands of the people, not the demands of party dictates.
“It’s not surprising that government parties feel threatened by Independents. The people know the value of an independent voice who works and speaks on their behalf, unconstrained by the demands of a party.
“Over the last five years, I have made more than 61,000 reps to public bodies on behalf of 7,500 individual constituent’s issues. I have put down more than 2,350 parliamentary questions on behalf of the Donegal public. And I have sent more than 220,000 emails and 34,000 letters in reply to constituents.
“In that time, I have also spoken more often in Dáil debates than any other TD from the constituency. I have referenced Donegal in my contributions more times than all the other constituency TDs combined. The needs of Donegal and Donegal people have always been at the heart of what I do.
“I have been a consistent independent voice for Donegal and Donegal people in the Dáil since 2011. My record speaks for itself.
“And I would be ready to go into government if there were a government with the political will to make the changes that are needed, the changes that put people first and make sure policies and programmes work for everyone.
“However, we have seen over years that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have not shown that political will, with their history of failed policies that have left Donegal people and people around the country behind,” he said.
