Pringle welcomes Government commitment of €600m for A5
- Updated: 20th February 2024
Independent TD for Donegal, Thomas Pringle, has welcomed the Government’s commitment today of €600 million for the long-awaited A5 North-West transport corridor and its commitment to progress work on related Ten-T upgrades in Donegal.
Deputy Pringle said: “This is very good news for everyone in Donegal and the north west. The A5 is a vitally important piece of infrastructure, and a major route for those living and working in Donegal and other border counties.
“The A5 has also long needed work to make it more safe for the people who use it every day. Dozens of lives have been lost on that road since Stormont approved upgrade plans for the route in 2007.
“I also welcome the Government’s commitment to progressing the related Ten-T works in Donegal, which will provide Donegal with badly needed infrastructure improvements and complement the A5 upgrade,” he said. Ten-T projects include the Ballybofey-Stranorlar bypass, the N13 Letterkenny to Manorcunningham; the Bonagee link; and the N14, Manorcunningham to Lifford.
Deputy Pringle said: “The A5 upgrade and these related works will provide social and economic benefits to Donegal and the north west, and I look forward to seeing work on them begin as soon as possible.”
