Pringle: Government failure to join ICJ case leaves Ireland ‘on the wrong side of history’

Independent TD for Donegal, Thomas Pringle, said the Government’s decision not to join South Africa’s genocide case to the International Court of Justice will leave Ireland on the wrong side of history.
Deputy Pringle said: “This weekend marches and rallies calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire drew many thousands of people to Dublin, Cork, Derry, joining marches and rallies held internationally in support of the Palestinian people.
“The Irish people continue to show their support for the Palestinian people, and their horror at the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
“Last week I sent an email to the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, urging him to reconsider the Government’s decision not to join South Africa in its genocide case against Israel in the International Court of Justice.
“As I said in my email to the Taoiseach, history will not judge kindly those who sat idly by and turned a blind eye to the extermination of the Palestinian people.
“We saw last week the powerful case lawyers representing South Africa made before the court. We cannot be silent as we see genocide unfold before our eyes. The Government’s decision not to join South African in this important case will leave Ireland on the wrong side of history,” he said.
