Pringle welcomes funding for apprenticeships at Killybegs campus of ATU Donegal

Independent TD for Donegal, Thomas Pringle, has welcomed confirmation that electrician apprenticeships will be delivered to Killybegs as part of funding for apprenticeships across four technological universities, including Atlantic Technological University in Donegal.
Minister Simon Harris and Minister Niall Collins this week announced €17 million in capital funding in response to the growing demand for apprenticeships in the higher education sector. The funding will be distributed across four technological universities, including ATU Donegal, and an Institute of Technology, to deliver an additional 132 apprenticeship craft training blocks.
Deputy Pringle said: “Some of the electrician apprenticeships will be delivered to Killybegs and this is good news for the college and for local industry. It’s part of the diversification and expansion of available courses that will lead to the growth of the Killybegs campus.
“It is vitally important that the Killybegs campus grows within the Atlantic Technological University overall,” he said.
The deputy has addressed the Dáil a number of times on the importance and the potential of the Killybegs campus. Earlier this year, during oral parliamentary questions to Minister Harris, Deputy Pringle told the minister that ATU campuses at Killybegs and across the region should be seen as a great asset and given the resources they need to expand and develop, and he welcomed Minister Harris’s assurances that the Killybegs campus has an important role to play in Atlantic Technological University.
