Pringle calls on Government to expel Israeli ambassador
- Updated: 20th October 2023
Independent TD for Donegal, Thomas Pringle, this week has called on the Irish government to expel the Israeli ambassador.
Deputy Pringle said: “The Irish government needs to send a very strong message to the Israelis that we will not tolerate what is happening in Gaza and the occupied territories.
“I believe this action would send a very strong message, and it would send a very strong message as well to our colleagues in the European Union that this is unacceptable to Ireland. The siege and the bombing of hospitals are crimes against humanity, and we must take a strong stand,” he said.
The deputy also criticised Government for failing to consult with members on a motion this week on the situation.
Deputy Pringle said: “I voted against the Dáil motion brought forward on Wednesday because it was very one-sided in support of Israel, and it was done without any consultation with members.
“The motion should have been done by agreement with all parties in the Dáil. We had put forward very simple amendments that could have been taken on board if the Government were interested in consensus,” he said.
Deputy Pringle said: “I will continue to advocate for an end to the violence, an end to the imprisonment of the people of Gaza, and the dismantling of the apartheid regime.”
