Pringle slams Government for ‘breathtaking arrogance’ as bills are rammed through the Dáil

Independent TD for Donegal, Thomas Pringle, asked whether amendments to the defective block legislation will be considered, as he slammed the Government for ramming bills through the Dáil.
Addressing the Taoiseach in the Dáil on Tuesday, Deputy Pringle said: “I want to congratulate you and your government on your record-breaking performance in office. Two years yesterday.
“And, to celebrate, this week sees your government set a dubious record of ramming five bills through the House at second stage, for which the committee stage deadline for amendments will have passed prior to the second stage beginning.
“It’s breathtaking arrogance and a contempt for parliamentary procedure and principle. It’s blatantly anti-democratic. And it’s the kind of sharp practice Boris Johnston or Mitch McConnell would be proud of.
“So, Taoiseach, will you confirm to the House today that this is now de facto government policy?” he asked. The deputy was speaking on Tuesday during Questions on Promised Legislation.
Deputy Pringle concluded: “I know many people in Donegal will be watching this week as we consider the defective block legislation. They’re currently poring over the bill, writing amendments, and you and your Minister should be honest with them as to whether they will be given any proper consideration at all.”
