Pringle continues to push for further convergence of CAP payments

Independent TD for Donegal, Thomas Pringle, said he will continue to push for convergence of CAP payments to farmers, saying he hoped the next CAP would reach 100 per cent.
Deputy Pringle said: “I raised a Private Members’ debate in the Dáil in April, to have CAP payments debated on the floor of the House.
“That gave a clear indication that the Dáil wanted a fair CAP that would help small holdings,” he said.
The deputy attended a meeting last week with the Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association (INHFA), which seeks 100 per cent convergence. Deputy Pringle has long supported flattening the Basic Payment Scheme in CAP.
Deputy Pringle said: “The new CAP provides for 80 per cent convergence of payments, which is a good move. The next CAP, hopefully, will get it to 100 per cent.”
“The changes will bring an extra €10 million to Donegal farmers, which is a tribute to the INHFA and the work they have done in representing small farmers,” he said.
