Delays in opening of Seaview House a disgrace says Pringle
- Updated: 23rd January 2020
Thomas Pringle – 23 Jan 2020
Independent General Election candidate for Donegal Thomas Pringle says “it’s an absolute disgrace that Seaview Respite House is still closed to families.
“I have been in touch with families who are at their wits end over the continuing delays in the opening of this vital respite service.
“The facility was recently transferred to Rehabcare and was due to open on January 14th. . However, to date the facility is still closed with no date prospective issued to families by the HSE.
“As of yesterday, there are 4 or five Rehabcare staff awaiting on a HIQA inspection to be carried out and for registration to proceed. There is no reason why the inspection can’t be carried out as we know the transfer to Rehabcare has already been finalised.
“HSE and Fine Gael are failing on their commitments to parents and service users of Seaview House and families have had enough of it. This was after a series of delays before Christmas and now we are dealing with delays again.
“The crisis in respite provision in South Donegal continues and must end once and for all. It’s been going on far too long at the costs of families’ wellbeing and is a disgrace to the current Government.
“I’m calling on the HSE to urgently proceed with the inspection and get this service up and running for the long waiting families and service users who so desperately need respite” concludes Pringle.
